Rapide Lifaloft Air Jacket – test review

The Rapide LIFALOFT Air Jacket from HELLY HANSEN is a lightweight and insulated jacket that is durable, and breatheable. It’s outer layer fabric uses the DWR Nylon 20D Technology which is integrated in the garn, so that it can’t be washed off . Their goal was to have minimum puffy instances but maximum warmth compared to traditional polyester insulation using their new LIFALOFT Air insulation.

The everlasting DWR infused fabric is developed without any chemical coating. PFC free water-repellent substances are woven into the yarn, so that it achieves a no wash off protection. The jacket will not need to be reproofed after washing. The seams are strategically placed for more freedom of movement and comfort.

I tested the Helly Hansen jacket all summer long. Especially during the hot, wet and windy days this jacket was an interesting partner. I was a little hesitant about it’s waterproofability. The fabric is soft to the touch and extremely light. There are 2 zippable pockets in the front, the front zipper goes up nicely, covering the chin. Another 2 pockets are found inside the jacket. The inner lining inside looks like frottee, however it felt more comfortable than one. I was pleasently surprised how well it insulates, without needing to put on an extra layer unless the temperatures dropped under 10°c. However, if you don’t move around much, you will need an extra layer to top it out. You can wear a helmet under the hood of the jacket, elastic ends holds the hood in place. There’s a cord in the seam ends of the bottom to fit the hips.

The year had an extremely warm but dry summer. When it did rain, it seemed that the heavens expelled everything it had been collecting for months. I had this jacket on a few rainy occasions and the jacket kept me dry during the outburst. For longer periods of heavy rain I would reccommend wearing a hardshell over it.

One standout feature of this jacket is its breathability. Even during more intense activities, I never felt overheated or clammy. The moisture-wicking properties of the fabric kept me dry and comfortable, effectively regulating my body temperature.

The Rapid Lifaloft Air Jacket weighs about 295g and doesn’t make a fuss even after a wash.

I must say, the Rapide Lifaloft Jacket exceeded my expectations in terms of performance, comfort, and style. From chilly hikes to urban adventures, this jacket proved to be a reliable companion in various outdoor conditions. Its lightweight nature and packability make it ideal for travel, as it takes up minimal space in a backpack.

Whether you’re embarking on an adventure or simply running errands around town, this jacket delivers on its promises and keeps you warm and stylish throughout. I highly recommend the Rapide Lifaloft Jacket to anyone seeking a reliable and versatile outerwear option.
