Entraygues

It took a while before the new guide book came out again. And when it did, it was sure worth while to get it. Dream routes and new areas in granite, conglomarat and limestone – all found summerized in a valley and each one better than the next. Infact we did not climb any route that did not deserve a star the last week. I was practically amazed how international the scene has become, with annual boulder cups and rock climbing competitions, the area has developed well for the rock climber in the last few years. Alpes – Maritimes: a beautiful mixture of the alps and the sea next to each other in southern france. The region is blessed with hundreds of sectors of climbing possibilities for every taste and  difficulty be it a wall of tufas, ledges or overhanging grips. If you are situated in Nice, the furtherst crag to reach is at most 1.5 hrs away. The border to Italy is just about an hour away from there and every view you inhale is one of blue skies, sun and sea, one of the things which is essential for the beginning of a great climbing holiday in Côte d’Azur.

Gregor in Escragnols, 7c

Grand Face, La Turbie

A short story:

Mr Stimpson, a strong, young and a vain 1.6m tall man were in the skirts of Nice, France. He would battle anyone who came across his way. And he was always ready for more.

It was a wonderfull Tuesday morning, after Mr. Stimpson had victoriously wrestled down the >>Star Gladiator<< in the arena of Castillon. He amused himself with the idea to reward himself in the fore runnings of the Formula One in Monte Carlo! Read the rest of this entry »

Cooking outdoors and Recipes on the Road
  • Beef Bourguignon with marons

It was quiet, terribly quiet and the day was just awesome. I sat outside enjoying every single ray the sun had to offer on a cold autumn afternoon. As a slight breeze came across my face, I watched the golden leaves falling to the grounds...the previous nights were frosty cold and winter was coming in big steps . And I thought, we're going to have a strong winter this year, one thats white,…

  • Pasta salad with musselsPasta Salad with Mussels and cherry tomatoes

I must admit, that this year was not spent much cooking outdoors. I'm getting really comfortable with just hitting for the restaurants and getting others to cook for me. Now that isn't such a bad idea either? With the seasonal weather changing to be colder, darker, wet-ter and just nothing enjoyable to stay outside and freeze your buns out, I'd opt for eating out. Moreover we've been hitting for…

  • Chicken curry

I was amazed yesterday to see what some climbers have in their rucksack...you think it's usually full of equipment, rope, carabines, etc... A normal backpack with those weigh at least 12 kgs, depending of how you minimise. Well, when a fellow freind of ours turned up at the African Wall, and unpacked his bag, it was full of things to eat! Let me list out what I saw: 3 litres of water, 1 500g…

  • Avocadopaste

It's the weekend again, thank goodness!  Our car was all ready and packed with enough carbohydrates, and spices for dinner and Mymuesli for breakfast. Our destination brought us to one of the many climber's paradise in Tirol, again a new spot for us in 100% granite. A healthy breakfast is the best way to start off a powerful climbing day. My diat for the day consists usually of weetabix…
